The Assist

LeBron James has always played the game the way he wanted to and has often been criticized for his willingness and desire to make the “assist” just as much as he looks to score himself. However, James’ desire to assist transcends the court and crosses over into the real world.

James has assisted multiple individuals achieve “stand alone success” or success that is no longer directly dependent upon James’ time, effort, or financing. One of those individuals is Rich Paul who currently has an estimated net worth of $10 million & serves as LeBron’s Agent and is the founder of Klutch Sports Group.

LeBron hired Paul as a personal assistant  (50k/yr) shortly after entering the NBA in 2003; originally only because he saw great potential in him and felt that he could be a major asset down the road (high level of forethought for an 18 year old). He helped him get training, knowledge, & experience that is required in sports management world. To date the Agency (Klutch Sports Group) is growing exponentially & currently represents 15 players including LeBron, John Wall, Eric Bledsoe,  & this year’s probable #1 pick Ben Simmons. Because of James’ willingness to “assist;” Paul a young man without a college degree is on pace to be one of the top sports agents in the business.

It would be easy to just give people fish (money), but James’ has taken the time to teach others to fish for themselves.  He chose to give several individuals around him, that were willing to put in the work, an opportunity to build wealth for themselves. In this case Paul he did what he had to do to ensure he was prepared and ready to maximize the opportunities that were in front of him.

We all like to Score, but never forget that the more you assist the stronger the team becomes. #StoryTime #PrescottsPrinciples #HomeboyHallOfFame
